Farmersville, Texas - A day
filled with fun, honor and respect as
local veterans were honored in the ninth
annual Audie Murphy Day Celebrations.
This was the ninth consecutive
year for this popular Main Street
Program even, which was named "Best
Promotional Event" by the Texas Downtown
Association.
A military flyover with four jets kicked
off the downtown parade at 5:30 p.m.
"Our Audie Murphy Day celebration is
dedicated to thanking the men and women,
both retired and on active duty, that
have served and is severing our great
country. Prior to the event Mr.
Joe Helmberger who is serving as the
even chairman again this year was quoted
as saying "It is impossible to say
thanks enough".
After the parade a program began in the
Onion Shed. Featured were comments
by residents that knew Audie Murphy;
three musical numbers were presented for
their patriotic theme; a tribute to
Audie Murphy presented by Master of
Ceremonies Jim Foy and special
recognition of area veterans.
A historical marker for Audie Murphy's
homecoming to Farmersville as pictured
in Life magazine was dedicated during
this year's Audie Murphy Day.
